Everybody's Got One

Steven Den Beste argues, in the midst of a long post, that to be religious is a positive thing for an individual, but negative for a society. (I read Den Beste almost daily; even when I don't agree with his ideas or his logic, he generates thought.) But this one, I think, he has exactly backwards. No surprises there; as an atheist, observing from the outside, he has no direct knowledge of what being religious is like in a person's life - or, as a southern Californian, in a society.
