Speaking truth from Power by David Warren. Astonishing.

A snarky but lyrical selection, before the main argument begins:
[T]he mind that is freed from the shackles of humility, and evacuated of religion and good faith; which meets challenge by retreat into mockery and sneering. Or am I being too harsh?

Only slightly. But shooting barrelfish is only a lead-in to his real purpose - proposing a profound change in the way we do diplomacy, and governance.
