Hate the sin, love America?

When you obsess on the speck in your own eye and ignore the beam in your neighbor's, it's likely something other than a horror of sin is going on. It might be scrupulosity - but those who trumpet their country's failings are rarely known for personal self-criticism regarding their lives or their relationships or their families - so maybe not. It's not enough simply to examine - or be - your country's conscience.

And you strongly suspect someone has forgotten what the point is:
Then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.
