Everybody's Got One
A blog. An opinion. An elimination orifice. A dream. An agenda. A past. A hidden talent. A conceptual filter. A cross. A charism (often the same). A task. A wound. A destiny. A lost love. A blind spot. A bad habit. A secret. A passion. A soul ... okay, maybe not everybody ...

For the unjust has stolen the just's umbrella

As the years so by, I find myself more and more sympathetic to the older brother of the prodigal son. He got utterly jobbed - as so often happens to those who play by the rules - and is so again every time a homilist tries to soften the story by accusing him of self-righteousness or Pharasaic rigidity or some other character flaw to make the story seem more fair. The hard truth is, God isn't fair. He gives blessings to those whom he wills, and it's not supposed to seem right to us.

And that can be the hardest thing of all to let go of.
